1. Site Backup Facility

   It would be great to have a site backup facility so that guild admins can store their member posts and pics and forum material and private pages of-site in the event of an emergency.

   We have looked into this, but it is not something we’re currently planning to add more functionality to; the Lockbox ensures that forum posts aren’t immediately deleted, but other content would need to be manually backed up.

2. Award System and Homepage Music Improvements

   Hello Guild Launch,

   I am pretty new to Guild launch but I do plan to stay for a couple of years here. I do have some suggestions that come from myself and my clan. I know that some of my ideas may not be possible for how the websites are designed, but I want to just throw some ideas out there and maybe you will think of a few ways it is possible.

   First is the award layouts, I feel that there could be a couple of improvements.

   I do like the Awards widget that you can have on your homepage, but if there was a way to display the description of how you get that award, without going to a list of all the awards, when your mouse hovers over the award in the widget section (like in the two pictures below).

   I would also like to comment on the picture above and suggest maybe have another option to have the grid layout that might be a little more user friendly than just the style that there is in the picture below. I am not trying to bash on what there is now because I am thankful for the award system, but maybe it could use some more finishing touches.

   I believe many people like showing off what they have accomplished in the clan, but nobody really knows who has what type of award after it falls off of the awards list. Currently, its kind of a hassle to see how many awards points that member has within the clan without going to their profile. If there was a way to display that next to # of posts after that person posts in the forums (like in the two pictures below).

   Maybe choose some of the awards above, like a maximum of 5, in the forums section below under the persons avatar. I know you've stated in other threads before that there isn't enough space, but I would like you to consider trying to make room.

   And last but not least I did have a lot of requests in my clan to make the Homepage music also available in other areas of the website. Halo 3 Theme song is the S*** :) On the image, where it is circled in red, is only on the homepage. When you click to go to the forums tab, the red circled section is no longer there.

3. Allow admin ability to opt out of emailed weekly updates for entire membership

   This feature has resulted in fewer members posting, as they are uncomfortable with their posts being highlighted in emails like this. And while you say it's linked to forum privileges, we've become uncomfortable using our own officer forums because we're not confident it is working that way. We already have a newsletter we send on occasion and just want to be able to remove this feature entirely OR have some control which forums the posts are pulled from.

   This isn’t something we currently plan to implement as an admin-side feature, but if the posts/threads that users see is based on their permissions on the site.

   If there are cases where users are seeing posts that they would not be able to see on the site, please forward an example to us at support@guildlaunch.com and our developers will definitely look into it!

4. Shared Alliance calendar

   The following proposal is to help ease the various allied sites' ability to share the information found on their alliance calendar.

   The system as stands is useful, but it could be more user-friendly if it allowed allied sites to see the alliance calendar events on their own sites' calendars.
   
   - It is easier for an average user to go to one site--their kin/guild/clan/et al--to learn what they want to learn. These sites, on average, are used during people's free time which is precious to most folks. The more efficiently the information is dispersed, the more free time they have to play the games that brings them here in the first place.

   • Also, not all site admins are build from scratch web developers. Some of the current methods to try to work around the system in place to copy information over to their site is beyond their skill even with help from the support forums.
     

   Currently the alliance calendar can only be viewed by:
   - going to the actual alliance site
   - going to an individual allied site if said site's admin is capable of creating their own link within their site
   - going to an individual allied site if said site's admin is capable of overriding their own site's calendar link on their site with the ally calendar

   Currently the alliance calendar can only be updated by:
   - going to the actual alliance calendar, whether it is called at the alliance site, or via a link change on an allied site

   I believe that the proposed additions that follow would improve functionality of the alliance system overall, and I have offered a few levels of options in the hope that at least one system will be implemented.

   At the very least, I would like to see:
   - Any event posted on the alliance calendar to display on all allied calendars as well.

   In my perfect world, all calendars within an alliance should have the following functionality:
   - All alliance events would show up on both the alliance site calendar as well as all the other site calendars within the alliance.

   • Shared events could be added both on the alliance site calendar as well as the all the site calendars within the alliance.

   • When one is adding an event, s/he will have the choice as to which calendars within the alliance will see the event.
     (This could be as simple as "this site only vs. all" or as complex as a check box per alliance member site as well as the parent alliance site.)

   I have tried my best to be as clear as possible to convey what I see in my head (and have used on similar sites before). My vocabulary for such things isn't great, so I hope it all makes sense.

5. Have an "Undo" option in Admin Area

   How often have you done something in Admin that has had an unexpected side-effect? How often have you done something and then thought "oops - what did I do there?!"

   For those of us who are complete numpties ... is it possible to have an "undo" option throughout the admin panel?

6. Roster Import History Reports

   I would really like to be able to run reports to show the character import history showing which dates they were added or removed, the dates characters were updated and what was updated. As of now I only see a summary of what took place in the last import but without any specific detail.

7. Add a Search Option to Admin area.

   Adding a search bar to locate features in the admin area and an auto navigate feature. When you've located the feature, clicking on it will take you to the TAB that it is on; Not necessarily to execute the feature (juust a suggestion.. you guys would probably have a better idea on that). I love all the features of the site, but when I haven't been on for a week or so.. I forget where they are located and get a little frustrated having to find them again. I do love your how to videos, but I kinda feel like we're on a first name basis. lol

   This is not currently planned functionality, but there are plans in the future to put a Bookmarking feature in place where commonly used tabs can be easily accessed by the users.

8. Guild Audit Undo

   I would like the ability to undo actions from the guild audit part of the admin section. This way, people who have either inadvertently left the guild on the site or been accidentally (or even if intentionally removed without complete agreement from admins) can be re-associated with the guild without having to fill out a new application or use the launch code.

   This is an interesting feature, but there’s too much room to abuse it the way you’re describing. An undo button would let an admin force a player into coming back to the guild site, even if they had left intentionally. If a confirmation were needed, it would effectively be the same as the Launch Code.

9. Admin only custom pages

   Can you look into setting up a 3rd permission on custom pages. Right now it has Public, and Member visibility. It would be quite useful if there was a 3rd Admin Visibility. so only members that are flagged Admin can view the page's

   This isn’t currently planned, but you can do something similar with an admin-only forum.

10. Use an open login format or create one

    I would like to see an open login format used (such as OpenID), or making a public login tool like that for GuildLaunch accounts, so we can allow GuildLaunch users to log in on third-party (or homemade) tools while the user authentication is still checked by GuildLaunch's login system.

11. Lock left column and bottom scroll bar in Guild Permission Admin page

    I would be really helpful when I am managing Permissions if the Left column would stay on the screen no matter how far I scroll to the right. I also think the lower scroll bar need to be visible the whole time so you can scroll left and right at anytime instead of having to scroll all the way to the bottom.

12. custom HTML using external editor

    I have web tools in firefox and the ability to edit the index html file, problem is you cant use the tools to on this website by right clicking the page and cliking edit source/generated source with external editer. i can open the generated source and source but cant save it back after i edit it. have to use a html widget, then lose the page upgrades, or oframe it, stil lose the upgrades, Just allow export and imports of custom pages. what you have now is so small even for drag and drop it does not appear in the same spot after update.

13. Guild Name Flash Movie Appearance Controls

    I would like to see a way of controlling which pages (i.e. only the home page - instead of all of them) the guild name flash movie appears. The flash movies can get a bit much if seen over and over again. They are mostly appropriate for the homepage and not anywhere else. With that, maybe a control for a secondary title for other pages than the home page. Thank you!

14. Don't Drunk the Kids

    I have been role playing for almost 40 years. I remember when ... and that is enough said. That being the case I like a variety of RPG experiences. My gaming clan is a multi-gaming clan. Our main focus right now is in The Secret World, Star Trek Online, and Star Wars: the Old Republic. One of those games is rated as Mature in the ESRB or PEGI 18. Some games are even rated Adult Only (in example: Call of Duty World at War). Many games are now also rated Mature because those of us that started off with Pong, Missile Command, Joust, and Pack-Man are now two or even three times the age of 21.

    Currently Guild Launch attempts to make sure all members are at least 13, but the games available, the games played by the working employed people, are likely to be for those over 18 who have those under 18 in the house. And let's face it, there is no way to get a 13 year old to verify their age with their credit card - or there shouldn't be. But we have a moral, if not a legal, obligation to consider age appropriate material when setting up a posting system. To allow families to participate in the same guild, while still making room for the difference between mature interests and those they share with their teens.

    What I am recommending:

    1) The ability to request birth date on the member application.
    2) The ability to set which ratings system the guild will use as a standard (ESRB or PEGI).
    3) The ability to create forums, gallery sections, and automatically tag character biographies from games based on the game rating.
    4) The ability of a member to check their post or image as being within a certain rating.
    5) The ability of a moderator or admin to edit the rating of posted materials accordingly.
    6) The ability to access forums, gallery sections, and character biographies be based on the ESRB rating.
    7) Guilds would have the option not to set a rating system for their site, and not bother with these mechanics.

    Ratings available for Euro-centered gamers would be: Rating Pending, General, PEGI 12, PEGI 16, and PEGI 18. Ratings available for American centered gamers would be: Rating Pending, General, Teen, Mature, Adults Only. Rating Pending and General are categories of necessity to cover general public areas where best behavior is always expected (and language filters should be on fingers) and games that have not been rated.

    Below are the PEGI and ESRB ratings that would apply to Guild Launch supported communities.

    Pan European Game Information
    PEGI 12: Videogames that show violence of a slightly more graphic nature towards fantasy character and/or non graphic violence towards human-looking characters or recognisable animals, as well as videogames that show nudity of a slightly more graphic nature would fall in this age category. Any bad language in this category must be mild and fall short of sexual expletives.
    PEGI 16: This rating is applied once the depiction of violence (or sexual activity) reaches a stage that looks the same as would be expected in real life. More extreme bad language, the concept of the use of tobacco and drugs and the depiction of criminal activities can be content of games that are rated 16.
    PEGI 18: The adult classification is applied when the level of violence reaches a stage where it becomes a depiction of gross violence and/or includes elements of specific types of violence. Gross violence is the most difficult to define since it can be very subjective in many cases, but in general terms it can be classed as the depictions of violence that would make the viewer feel a sense of revulsion.

    Entertainment Software Ratings Board
    TEEN: Content is generally suitable for ages 13 and up. May contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling and/or infrequent use of strong language.
    MATURE: Content is generally suitable for ages 17 and up. May contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language.
    ADULTS ONLY: Content suitable only for adults ages 18 and up. May include prolonged scenes of intense violence, graphic sexual content and/or gambling with real currency.
    RATING PENDING: Not yet assigned a final ESRB rating. Appears only in advertising, marketing and promotional materials related to a game that is expected to carry an ESRB rating, and should be replaced by a game's rating once it has been assigned.

    There are manual workarounds for this as well – it can be managed with age-specific permission groups on the Admin Menu → Permissions → Permission Groups area of your site. Adding that and a required question on the application asking a user’s age and you can manually regulate it.

16. Website preview for group permissions

    Hi, it would be nice to have an overview of the website in the permissions area group (to see directly what the forum will look like for the different group in the forum / categories / and menu). That will help to make sure that you dont give acces to an officer categorie or forum for example (forum in this section have often the same name as other like news or general info .. )

    While we don’t currently plan to implement a preview mode for permissions, I’m working on a list that outlines what all the permissions provide access to on our support wiki!

17. Awards icons on the Forums

    I notice this on the FAQ. I would really like you guys to take another look at this.

    Q. Why doesn't the image show in the forums?

    A. We felt that there was already a lot of space taken up with other functionality. There is limited real estate in the forum avatar area so a balance must be struck.

    We are looking into options for displaying the images here in the future.

    What I am trying to do, is use the award system to give readers on the forum a gage on how experienced the authors are. I plan to give awards to members when they reach level 20, 40, 60 on a class, which will give weight to their advise on the class forums. I will also assign an award to class leaders. Right now, I can give those award, but they really aren't displayed anywhere that's useful. I know space is limited on the forums, but this is well worth it. You can limit the pixel size of the icons or have two award icons, one for the gaudy full-sized award and one for the forum icon. I think you can also limit the number of awards that can be displayed on the forums. This won't be as good as listing all of the experience of my members, but would be a reasonable compromise for space. I just may have to make a multi-class award.

    This is definitely an interesting idea, but it’s not something we’re currently planning to implement.

    This is not currently planned functionality; the use of a Launch Code to forgo the application process automates the approval process to simplify it for the user, but having no approval process opens up a number of issues.

    It’s been over a month and no one has voted for this, so I’m going to go ahead and remove it.

20. Split/Merge Subject Retention

    When Splitting/Merging threads, keep the original Subjects from the 'child topic' that merges into the 'parent topic'. Currently, only the first post in the 'child topic' retains the original Subject, where as subsequent posts within the 'child topic' inherit the 'parent topic' Subject.
