How do I add an image to the left of my URL (a favicon)?

If you look to the left of the URL in this browser window, you’ll see the Uservoice favicon – a small picture of a megaphone. It’s pretty cool. And you know what? Maybe you want to add one to your site as well.

First of all, choose an image. This needs to be really small – preferably 16×16 pixels.

For Firefox, Opera and the like, this is very easy. Just upload a file named ‘favicon.png’ to your File Library (not the image gallery) and it will show up in the browser.

For Internet Explorer, you’ll need a file called ‘favicon.ico’ in the File Library (again, not the image gallery). It’ll show up in the browser. For this, though, the favicon will need to follow the guidelines set forth here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms537656.aspx
